The former South African bowling spearhead Allan Donald believes cricket will become a poorer sport once master blaster Sachin Tendulkar hangs his international boots. According to ‘White Lightening’, for cricket Tendulkar is "Maradona and Pele put together".
"Sachin Tendulkar's charm goes beyond the field. For cricket he is Maradona and Pele put together, it is as simple as that. Cricket will be a poorer sport when he quits the game. He has been unbelievably special," Allan Donald has written in the upcoming book Sachin -- Cricketer of the Century, authored by Vimal Kumar.
The 46-year old was a lethal bowler of his time with his sheer pace and deadly accuracy. Donald and Tendulkar's rivalry was one of the most exciting rivalry of its time. Donald has a word of advice for international bowlers on how to prepare to bowl to Sachin.
"You don't analyse Sachin two days before a Test. We always planned months in advance. We knew how highly Indian teams depended on him. History will show you that right-arm express pace bowlers have been successful against him. I spoke to Curtly Ambrose before my 1996 trip to India and he told me to never let Sachin leave the first 15 balls," explains Allan Donald.
The ‘White Lightening’ has mentioned that whenever he is asked about the greatest in the game, the first name that comes to his mind is Tendulkar.
"Tendulkar's is the first name that comes to mind the moment you ask who is the greatest," said Allan Donald.
