|India will kickstart their 2012 ICC World T-20 campaign against Afganistan in Colombo at the R Premadasa Stadium today. The 2007 World T20 champions are against a weaker opposition but they would not like to take things lightly.
India started their 2010 ICC World T20 championship against the same opposition at the Caribbean. India had an easy outing then and they would hope for the same this time around.
Afghanistan team has a decent mix of youth and experience. Their bowling department has good variety of fast and spin bowling options. Fast bowler Hamid Hasan, off-break bowler Mohammad Nabi and Karim Sadiq make their bowling look strong.
As far as Team India is concerned captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni would be worried about his team’s bowling attack as they went for plenty in the India versus Pakistan warm-up match. India’s spearhead Zaheer Khan has not quite led from the front in T20 cricket the way he has led in test matches and ODIs.
In batting department Virender Sehwag is struggling with the bat in a format which is tailor-made for a swashbuckling batsman like him. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, is enjoying a great run. Yuvraj Singh would once again represent India in a global tournament. On this occasion he is back after fighting a rare germ cell cancer.
It would be an uphill task for Afganistan team to get better of team India on sub-continent conditions but they would be looking to put up a fight. India next faces T20 world champs England on Sunday.
