Virat Kohli the new ‘Indian run-machine’
Team India has seen a lot of highs and lows after the 2011 World Cup win. Their performances have not been up to the standards which they had set for themselves. A few senior cricketers have retired and some players have not shown enough appetite for success.

All this while, one thing has been common: Virat Kohli’s purple patch with the bat. His willow has yielded runs in all the three formats for India. When he went to the Caribbean his bat failed to do the talking but he is not one of those who gets bogged down. He went back to the nets did some fine-tunings and re-worked on his technique. The moment he got another opportunity, he made sure he capitalized. After having a tough time at Sydney and Perth, he bounced back to score a century at the Adelaide.

The Adelaide knock gave him the self-belief which has now taken him to dizzying heights. His heroics with the bat have been super-human. His strike-rate, technique, style, temperament, consistency and the fire in his belly has been a hallmark of his glorious achievements throughout a year and a half.

There are countless number of electrifying knocks played by the Delhi dasher but there are a few which really stand out. The fighting century at Adelaide in the fourth test despite all the taunts from the crowd and the verbal duels from the Australian players. The maverick unbeaten 133-run knock played at Hobart when Indians were asked to chase a mammoth 321 in 40 overs against a quality Sri Lankan bowling attack spearheaded by ‘Slinga’ Malinga.

No matter wherever you play and who ever you play against, a true test of a character is shown when you are up against your arch-rivals Pakistan. When India took on Pakistan in the Asia Cup match, Pakistan plundered 329 runs against a weak Indian bowling unit on a flat batting paradise. India after losing their first wicket in the very first over looked in a spot of bother but Virat Kohli hammered Pakistani bowlers all over the park with his 148-ball, 183-run knock to register an emphatic Indian win.

Virat Kohli’s appetite for runs did not end. He continued his great run of form against Sri Lanka in the 5-match ODI series and against New Zealand at home.

His ominous form yielded 1381 runs in just 34 matches at an average of 47.62 which is highest in 2011 calendar year.
Virat Kohli’s performances have earned him the ICC Player of the year 2012.

In this current 2012 T-20 World Cup, he missed out in the match against Australia but came back strongly against Pakistan to bag player-of-the-match with his composed 78-run knock.

Virat Kohli’s batting is a treat to watch. He has all the shots in the book. For a bowler it is suicidal bowling on his pads. His timing towards the off-side is exquisite and above all he wears his heart on his sleeve and is never shy of expressing his emotions on and off the field. It is perhaps his aggression which takes him to a different level altogether.

The formats have changed, the opposition teams have been different every single time, the venues have varied but the one thing which has remained constant is Virat Kohli’s form. He too realizes his great touch and form with the bat. Kohli is making hay in the sunshine because he knows a form can desert any player at any time.
